Sephora Play! has been the only subscription box service that has stuck for me. I like that the products that I receive are actually ones that I will use or I have at least wanted to try out. The theme for August’s Play! is “The Innovators” and these are products that are different and interesting. A small card is included with every bag that is good for 50 beauty insider points that can be redeemed for deluxe samples at check out.
These are the items that I received this month, and I am listing them in order of what I enjoyed the most, to the least:
Beautyblender Micro.mini ($18 for a pack of 2): Out of everything that I received this month, I am most excited to try out this. This tiny little sponge doubles in size, but is still much small than the OG Beautyblender. It is intended to be used for the smaller areas of the face where the Beautyblender would be too large. I feel like this would be most useful for under eye concealer and for blending out cream products so they do not become too “blown-out” Beautyblender Micro.mini
Too Faced Mascara Melt Off Cleansing Oil ($17): I tried this out for the first time last night because I had never tried anything like this. My hopes were not great for this one because it seemed a little gimmicky to me. It actually did a great job at removing my mascara. I am always guilty of not getting off all of my eyemakeup, but this actually worked and I didn’t wake up with any mascara or eyeliner outside of my eyes. It is super easy to use and I really like that I didn’t get any oily stuff all over my face. With this, you are able to really focus it on where you need to remove and can avoid all of the areas that you don’t. The other thing that I think makes this product truly innovative and great is that the small wand has allowed me to fix eyeliner mistakes pretty easily without ruining the rest of my makeup. Overall, for $17 dollars, this is worth it. Too Faced Mascara Melt Off
Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème #11 ($25): This concealer, and brand for that matter, is typically known for being super high coverage. This concealer, for me, seems to sheer out if you don’t let it dry down a little before blending it out. Other than that I like using it with the little Beautyblender that came with this month’s box. Lock-it Concealer
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream ($45): I am not totally convinced that this stuff does what it’s supposed to. It is a lofty goal to have a cream tighten and smooth as well as moisturize. With that all being said, I have gone through two tubs of this plus one body wash. When I say there is nothing that smells better than this stuff I am not lying. If you have never smelled this, you need to walk into a Sephora and do yourself favor. I don’t know if it works, and I don’t really care if it does because I would buy this just for the scent. Bum Bum Cream
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo ($22): I haven’t tried this one but this one claims to leave no residue, which is the most important part of a dry shampoo for most people. It also has over 4 stars on the Sephora rating system, which is no easy feat. I am interested in trying this one out for the first time. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day
Overall I feel like this month’s picks are worth the $10 dollars a month with just the mini Beautyblender and the overall size of the Kat Von D concealer alone. Sample size products (especially in formulas that tend to expire like creams) are ideal for those of us that will almost never use a product in it’s entirety.
